The Book Meme

So, I got tagged by Ken at http://teaching-and-all-that-jazz.blogspot.com/. I'm VERY EXCITED! I've never been tagged before.

Here are the rules: Grab the nearest book. Open the book to page 56. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the next two to five sentences in your journal/blog along with these instructions. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST. Tag five other people to do the same.

The book closest to me is the one I'm currently reading, "The Whole Story and Other Stories," by Ali Smith. I just found her and I love her. I'm not up to page 56 yet, but I will skip ahead.

I know, you say, defeated. I was wondering about that.
And anyway, I go on, but gently, because I know the effect it will have. The thing about your tree is, it belongs to someone else. It's not your tree to take. Is it?

And now for the tagging:

Freckles and Deb http://frecklesanddeb.blogspot.com/
Gemel http://gemelsworld.blogspot.com/
Alice http://potentiallynervous.blogspot.com/
Trina http://mylifemywordsmymind.blogspot.com/
Coolio http://317coolcrew.blogspot.com/

This almost makes up for being picked last my entire childhood.

I don't have my own blog, but here's sentences 6-7 of page 56 of the book nearest to me, which is "Illinois Court Rules and Procedure" (depending on what you count as a sentence):

As used in this Part, "medical malpractice action" means any action, whether in tort, contract or otherwise, in which the plaintiff seeks damages for injuries or death by reason of medical, hospital, or other healing art malpractice. The term "healing art" shall not include care and treatment by spiritual means through prayer in accord with the tenets and practices of a recognized chirch or religious denomination.

Boring! Also, the Illinois legislature apparently can't decide how it feels about the Oxford comma.

And I just checked out your book on amazon - it looks very promising (I love finding new authors) and was placed immediately in my wishlist!
