One of the worst things anyone can say to someone is, "God only gives us what we can handle." That is bullshit. Psych wards and mental hospitals are testament to the insincerity and falseness of that inane statement.
No one deserves pain and suffering. Our humanity and compassion are in short supply if we think otherwise.
